Our team stopped by last weekend to catch a football match, and honestly, Rileys was exactly what you’d want in a sports bar. The massive 75-inch screen in the middle of the room will immediately grab your attention.
We found a seat with a perfect view and instantly got into the game—especially when Liverpool fans started cheering. We can tell this place gets pretty lively during big matches.
One thing we didn’t expect was how family-friendly it felt, at least earlier in the day. We saw parents showing their kids how to play pool and some little ones giving darts a go. It’s nice that there are weekend hours where younger sports fans can join in on the fun.
Finding Rileys is easy. It’s right under the Grand Central student accommodation, tucked between the Adelphi Hotel and across from Lime Street train station.

The Hope & Anchor is definitely worth a visit with its laid-back British pub experience. The energy here was contagious. It’s the go-to spot during Champions League and Europa League matches.
It has a mix of old-school charm and modern, rustic touches. The warm wooden accents give it that classic pub feel, while the layout makes it easy to find a comfy spot to settle in.
Even if you’re not there for the sports, there’s plenty to keep you entertained. I gave the dartboard a go and watched a few groups laughing over games of pool.
It was also nice to see plenty of vegan-friendly options on the menu. If you’re into cocktails, you’ll love their 2-for-1 deal.

Plus, the location on Mathew Street makes it super convenient. We hopped off the train at Liverpool Central and were there in minutes.
The menu has all the pub favourites—pizzas, nachos, and some solid vegetarian options too. We went for the classic burger and wings combo, and we loved how generous they were with the toppings. The burgers have plenty of lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese.
And if you’re a beer fan, they have a great selection of beers, wines, and cocktails.

The industrial vibe also added to the cool, laid-back atmosphere. There were exposed brickwork and sleek finishes. We also got to explore their outdoor space which is a great spot to chill with a drink in hand and if you want some fresh air.
We also loved the variety of activities. After watching a game, we played a round of pool and gave cornhole a go for the first time. They even have game consoles if you’re up for a bit of digital competition.

Hit up The Long Shot during Happy Hour for great deals—midweek until 7 pm and from 7 pm on Sundays. You can grab 2 bottles of Heineken for £5, 2 cocktails for £12 or £13, and a bottle of Prosecco for just £15.

But it’s not just about the sports. The place also has dartboards and we even played a few rounds of beer pong.
They’ve got sourdough pizzas, classic pub grub, and plenty of plant-based options. I went for the bratwurst, served with sauerkraut and mustard. It was exactly what I needed with a cold stein of German beer because of its spicy and tangy flavours.

Rubber Soul is a sports bar by day and a music spot at night. There were TVs showing live games all around when we arrived, but we could also hear the faint live music starting.
We caught ourselves glancing up between conversations, getting into the action along with everyone else.

We managed to grab one of the four private snugs, each with its own screen. It’s perfect for a bit of privacy without missing the game.
We shared a mountain of loaded wedges to start, then dug into hearty pub favourites like pies and burgers. A friendly regular tipped us off about the Sunday roast being a must-try. The beef was cooked tender and juicy, and the gravy was savoury.

We wandered into The George Crosby because we were lured by the football commentary spilling out onto the street. When we walked in, big HDTV screens were dotted around the bar.
The place was packed with fans, their eyes fixed on the action while they sipped on real ales and lagers. We grabbed a table near the pool table since it seemed the perfect spot to enjoy the atmosphere without being right in the middle of the action.
We shared a plate of Katsu Chicken, which had just the right balance of crunch and curry kick. The drinks selection also kept everyone happy. A couple of us stuck with the real ales, while others ventured into ciders and a surprisingly good G&T.

Enjoy your drink in the pub’s garden for a relaxed outdoor vibe. Rest assured that the venue is accessible to everyone.

Hooters of Liverpool has that classic American sports bar vibe. There were bright lights, excited conversations, and the occasional cheer when a goal hit the back of the net.
It’s actually impressive that they have 52 massive 85″ TVs and four huge video walls. No matter where we sat, we had a perfect view of the game. We lucked out and caught a Premier League match, and the atmosphere felt like we were right there in the stands.
They host big event screenings too, like the Super Bowl. We made a mental note to come back for that.
The Hooters Girls added to the fun, bringing the signature Hooters hospitality with a friendly Scouse twist. They were chatty, welcoming, and somehow managed to juggle trays of food while joining in on the occasional bit of banter.

Our team recently headed to O’Neill’s to check out the newly refurbished space. The fresh bar area immediately caught our eye. It has sleek finishes and plenty of seating options that make it easy for us to grab a table without much hassle.
10 HD screens were showing live matches from BT Sport and Sky Sports. The place is surprisingly spacious, with room for up to 400 people. We saw a few larger groups celebrating birthdays while others were just kicking back with drinks.
We settled into one of the private booths, each with its own massive 78-inch screen. It felt like our own mini sports lounge. The best part? They can show up to four different games at once, so there’s no need to fight over the remote if your group supports different teams.

Fletcher’s Sports Bar at Allerton Manor Golf Club had that familiar, cosy pub vibe with big screens everywhere. No one missed a second of the action.
We grabbed a table in the covered marquee. It was heated and comfortable, even though it was a bit chilly outside. The giant screens and the small stage gave the space a fun, energetic feel. We could already picture coming back here for a big game or maybe some live music.
What stood out was the terrace, though. Sitting there, surrounded by trees, made the whole experience feel a bit more special than your average sports bar. It was peaceful but still lively, especially when a group near us got into a heated (but friendly) debate about the game on TV.
Pro tip:
Dress to impress with a smart casual look. Golf attire, smart jeans, and trainers are all good to go. Just skip the tracksuits, as they’re not allowed.

McCooley’s Mathew Street has a fun, split-level setup. We ended up near a huge screen showing a Premier League match. You really can’t miss the sports here with TVs everywhere.
After the match, live music kicked off. The band was already going strong, even though it was still early in the afternoon. They have live performances running from noon until 3 AM, so no matter when you pop in, you’re likely to catch some great tunes.
The Irish hospitality is also spot-on. The staff were quick, friendly, and happy to suggest a few drinks. We stuck with Guinness for the full Irish experience. If you’re feeling adventurous, there are loads of cocktails and spirits to pick from.

The open-plan layout in Lime Street Central felt super inviting. There were tall tables for a casual pint, comfy booths for a laid-back vibe, and benches that work perfectly if you’re with a bigger group.
We grabbed a booth near the bar, which gave us a great view of the action on the projector screens. With two massive TVs and those projectors, it’s the ideal spot to catch Premier League, Champions League, or EFL matches without missing a thing.
The drinks menu had plenty of options for everyone. A couple of us went for craft beers, while others tried the cocktails. The espresso martini was slightly bitter on the first sip but subtle sweetness comes in the aftertaste.
Pro tip:
If you’re planning a gathering, Lime Street Central has you covered with private hire options. The Garden Room fits up to 80 standing guests, the Projector Room holds 40, and The Square can host 60.
